Angela van Boxtel thinks the best is the outside of the restaurant as it’s a wall of living strawberry plants. As summed up by a young boy ‘look at that wall, totally cool!’.

Till 27th March a beautiful concept by Dutch Artist & Designer Joost Bakker can be seen in the Harbour (Rocks side)! He created a sustainable cafe/restaurant and everything in the cafe is made of recycled materials. I guess you have to be Dutch to come up with such an idea
“I have designed the restaurant in reverse. I’ve started at the end and worked back. My dream has always been to build a restaurant that creates no waste and now I believe I can achieve it!”
Joost has designed & made chairs out of old aluminium irrigation pipes. They are incredibly light & have been named Squirt Chair! The leather used for the seats are off-cuts from a saddle makers in Ballarat (Victoria’s last tannery). Lights have been made from willow trees and rolls of old fencing wire. The best is the outside of the restaurant as it’s a wall from living strawberry plants. As summed up by a young boy ‘look at that wall, totally cool!’. I wanted to have the experience of drinking coffee out of recycled jam glasses but looking at the long line to enter I skipped the joy and headed straight home back to Manly to spend some special time with my kids. I will try the idea though at home! I find Joost’s work very inspiring and I can see in the futuer many of his ideas implemented in our society. Ideas which are similar to mine and a sustainability I believe in and where I like to contribute too.
I also love the outside paintings on the container – they are images like in old Dutch story books in our dutch royal national colour ‘orange’! The Green House by Joost is concept I love to see more off!
